New thesis topic for 4th year Indy’s!

May 4th, 2010

Attention incoming 4th year Industrial Engineers. Next year you will all be required to work on a client-based thesis in order to graduate, and the Varsity has a project for You! If you want to have fun, learn something new, and complete your graduation requirement, all while having lots of fun with fellow students, this is your chance.

Project description:

The Varsity newspaper at the University of Toronto is facing a number of operational challenges. The newspaper is seeking to reduce costs, while increasing the advertising revenues, and improving the readership [read: business process improvement]. Among many tasks, you would be asked to analyze and optimize the distribution cycle of the paper [read: supply chain], determining means for tracking readership on an ongoing basis [read: KPIs], etc. As you learn about the newspaper and its operations, you will be welcome to propose other ideas for improving efficiency [efficiency] and cutting costs. Should the allow, you could also look into theVarsity.ca and propose changes (trust me, they really need to look at this, and unfortunately most newspaper folks aren’t exactly tech savvy ). The world is your oyster and you can get as much of this thesis as you have the time next year.

Warning: You might or might not have any time in 4th year, depends on how hard you’re willing to work.

Now hit that Tweet button above, or the Like button below and let your fellow students know. Teams between 2 and 4 people are welcome. For further information, contact me and I will give you the full story.
