Chunky, what’s wrong?
What’s wrong with this picture, can anyone tell me?

The answer is – there’s absolutely nothing wrong! Those are two nearly identical cans of soup, made around the same date, packaged in the same aluminum containers, shipped on most likely the same truck…etc. The only minor details that differentiates them is the indent on the top of the left can.
Now, why am I pointing it out? Well, because although these cans are nearly the same, will last equally long, produce nearly equal in quality soup, when I picked up the can with an indent I felt like it was inferior to the can that wasn’t out of shape. Crazy, isn’t it? Yet, I bet in 99% of the cases most people would have the same reaction. In fact, the price of this damage has already been factored into the price of the product. In order to sell it, Metro would likely have to put Chunky on sale, or simply throw away the “damaged” goods.
As the planet, we are spending so much time engineering methods to boost produce growth, LEAN out the supply chain, increase nutritional value of food ..etc, all in efforts to provide more food to people who need it. At the same time, our perception of quality makes us discharge perfectly fine produce. What’s worse, is our psychology. According to various research, we cannot easily control this behavior. Even if we were to constantly remind ourselves that in fact this is a perfectly good can of soup, more often than not we’d avoid the damaged one.
I guess all I am saying is that next time you are faced with a choice, choose wisely, think of what you’re doing and whether it is actually making sense.
