I Decide

May 26th, 2010

Yesterday I had a pleasure of watching the musical I DECIDE, by Stuart Knight’s Production. The cast of five, including Stuart, engaged the audience, made us laugh, made us think, and maybe even made some of us cry a little bit on the inside. Telling the story of a man who found who he was by finding who he wasn’t, the cast really focused on a theme that we all get to decide who we are and what we do. We have a choice doing the traditional way, the way we are told to go, the way others go, or we could take matters in our own hands and be what we want to be, do what we ought to do, and most importantly, do it now while there is still time.

Among sexual innuendos, satirical comments, fabulous singing and hysterical acting, my favorite scene was probably of Stuart going through a breakup. He was talking about the woman who he loved unconditionally, how she was the only one that mattered for him, the only one who could make it real for him. “Forget the valleys and mountains,… I would do anything for her, I would dig through the earth for her from one end to another, with my bare hands … for her!” – said Stuart. Unfortunately, she left him, leaving him empty inside. It’s a sad story, but of course it’s also an inspirational story – we all can get up from our knees, no matter how much it hurts, no matter how restless and helpless it makes us feel. There’s always a way and it’s just a matter of not letting the world around us bring us down.

All-in-all, the show was a great success! It is hard to imagine that in fact only 5 people + crew pulled it all together. Their voices were fantastic, their acting was superb, and their energy was flowing all around the theatre. I wish I could go again next year, but unfortunately this is the last year Stuart and the gang is putting this together. They’ve got lives outside the theatre and it’s a present that for five days a year they share those lives with the audience.

If you’re interested in attending, it’s not too late. There are still shows on Thu/Fri/Sat. Check out the rehearsal video below and follow the link at the end of the post to purchase your ticket! The money well spent.
