04 Problem

Eight ways startups burn the pile.

This is what I keep seeing. Not vibes. Invoices, deleted databases, and rebuild quotes.

1. 01

   The retry furnace

   The agent loops a failing task. Context compounds. Token cost goes quadratic. Teams have woken up to five-figure overnight bills.

2. 02

   Prompting instead of a process

   No spec. No plan. No tests. “Looks right” is the merge button. The hangover is a week of debugging what shipped in twelve minutes.

   Context as a landfill

   A 400-line CLAUDE.md, a stale 80-message chat, the whole repo dumped in. The model gets dumber as the window fills.

   Install the harness

   Plan → implement → verify → review. Skills, rules, and a definition of done the agent cannot self-report.

   Leave with an OS

   A written operating system the team can run on Monday. Not a vibe. A process.
